About Pack 178
A Special Word To Prospective Members

Scouting is fun and educational. Pack 178 is designed to provide your child with a first
class scouting experience. The fun part includes an diverse schedule of activities including
rocketry, cubmobiling, bicycling, hiking, camping, fishing, winter bowling league, as well as
visiting historical sights and participating in community and scouting activities. Going on
these adventures with a group of friends is one of the most fun part of scouting. But
scouting has another value -- your child will learn discipline and many useful skills. Cub
Scouting is an introduction to Boy Scouts and each level of Achievement works in
preparing boys for advancement towards the ultimate goal of becoming a Boy Scout in a
"crossing over" ceremony.

This is all part of being a Cub Scout. Like all Cub Scout Packs, we follow the rules of
membership and advancement developed by the Cub Scouts. We wear the uniform and
practice the ideals. But Pack 178 has its own special unique character. We are proud that
St. Paulies Church sponsors our organization and provides us with a centralized meeting
place in Great Neck. Our Pack recruits and welcomes all races, creeds, and religions. In
fact our District sponsors optional special religious activities throughout the year for most
religions and Pack 178 makes it a practice to welcome all scouts within our ranks. Our
regular Pack and Den meetings take into account the great diversity of religious
backgrounds of our group.

Pack 178 services all levels of Cub Scouting including Tigers (K to G1), Bobcats (G1 to 2),
Wolfs (G2 to 3), Bears and Webelos. Our leadership is working hard to provide your child
with a rich Scouting Experience. In addition to the regular Scouting activities our Pack
Meetings and Events will feature Rocketry, Go-Karting, Fishing Clinic, Winter Bowling
League, Bicycling and other events. These events are designed as parent/son activities in
which you will observe your child experience the benefits of Scouting in a shared
experience.

THE CUB SCOUT HANDBOOK IS YOUR KEY TO SCOUTING. Before you do anything else, buy your copy
of your handbook. You will notice there are several levels from Tiger Cubs to Webelos, purchase the age appropriate
Handbook. Now
, WRITE YOUR NAME IN IT! Take a few minutes to flip through it and see all the great ideas
inside. You will be using your Handbook(s) from the beginning to the end of your scouting career. Your progress will
be recorded in this book as you advance through the ranks. It is a good idea to buy a plastic cover for it because it will
take a beating as you carry it on outings and to Den meetings.
Show the Cub Scout Handbook to your child. It will give them a good idea of what scouting is all about. For your first

your child along the way.
